21st November Shoot

This shoot was dedicated to band performance, which we were re-shooting because we thought our performance could still be improved.

Another reason for re-shooting was that in the earlier footage, Jacob's microphone was too high, sometimes blocking his mouth when he sang. We reshot Jacob's footage with the microphone lower down.

Shooting Jacob's MCU
We wanted more of a variety of shot types. As well as a CU and MCU of Jacob, we wanted more interesting shot types of the other band members.
Mid shots of me and Chrystal - the audience can see us playing the instruments clearly
CU of guitar (left), MCU of me (right) - more shot types of the band members and the instruments will make our edit more interesting and help to create a stronger band identity
We had filmed a CU of my guitar before but this time we filmed it for the whole song rather than just the opening, so we have the option of using it at any point in the video. We also filmed a close-up of Chrystal's bass, and a mid close-up of Chrystal, too.

Band performance
We filmed different shot types of Brandon too
When filming Brandon, the drums kept sliding forward when he played them. We fixed this problem by having someone sitting in front of the drums, below the camera so you couldn't see them, to prevent the drums from sliding too far away.
Chrystal stopping the drums from moving
Mostly, the shoot went well, and we were happy with the way the shots turned out. However, with Jacob's shots there had been a problem - on the shoot day we couldn't find his purple jumper that he had worn in the previous shoots. We improvised and he wore Juliette's black jumper (which fit), and it looked fine, but we preferred the purple one because the brighter colour better suits our upbeat indie pop image and aesthetically looks better against the white background of the band set up.

We decided we would use the footage of the other band members, but reshoot the shots of Jacob in the original jumper.
